In June this year I was fortunate enough to travel throughout Germany. One of our stops in the Black Forest region was the charming medieval town of Gengenbach, home to the world’s largest advent calendar.
Each year since 1996, between the 30th of November and the 6th of January, the 24 windows of the 18th century town hall are transformed into the windows of an advent calendar.
Here is a photo of the town hall and market square on
the sunny summer day we visited. One day perhaps I shall return to see it
lighted up at Christmas time!
